Project competition in open procedure | 2022 | Customer: Municipality Engelberg

The original design from the 1920s, featuring a central swimming pool, a structural enclosure on the northern slope, and an unobstructed view towards the south, serves as the inspiration for our concept. It creates a clear and visually pleasing layout in the outdoor space. The swimming hall is slightly elevated compared to the open-air pool, giving it a grand and arena-like appearance. The building is characterized by a wooden structure that wraps around it, serving as both a protective barrier and a transition zone between the indoor and outdoor spaces. This design provides shelter from the elements while giving the building a sense of lightness and unique character. Above ground, the building is adorned with a red wooden facade and window frames, making it easily recognizable and harmonizing with the green surroundings. Inside, we plan to use light gray and beige tones for the floors and walls, creating a serene and cohesive atmosphere. The swimming hall's inner wall, however, will be made of vibrant blue-tinted and sealed exposed concrete, adding a touch of color to the interior.
